However, some archeologists do claim that Atlantis was located in the Mediterranean Sea close to Greece and the Island of Crete. According to their theory, the island of Thera which was eventually destroyed by volcanic eruption around 1500 BC is actually the island of Atlantis.

Some experts claim the Empire of Tartessos which was situated south of Spain could be the Empire of Atlantis. Tartessos is known as a lost empire and the reason of their extinction is not confirmed. This city was famous for its culture and strong financial infrastructure which had significant influence over the people of Greece and Egypt.

However, some of the researcher does believe that the city of Tarttessos could be a province of the main Atlantis Empire.

Atlantis in Asia?

The possibility of Atlantis being situated in Asia does sound unlikely to most researchers however has explanation from the archeologists who does not deny the possibility. It is now proven that during the 10,000 BC in Indonesia, a well developed civilization used to exist with rich culture and a strong agricultural economy which was totally destroyed by flood in the period when Plato referred the destruction of Atlantis to occur. Could it be like this is the very civilization which was referred as the Empire of Atlantis?

You will also find researchers pointing their fingers toward the Easter islands located in the Pacific Ocean as the possible location of Atlantis. The legend says that some of these Islands were huge in the ancient times. It is assumed that the Islands in this region could have been stretched from Easter Islands to the Indus valley as many of the art works and scripts of these places have similarities which is quite amazing as far as considering the huge distance between them.

The existence of Atlantis is something that lies in between reality and imagination. Many do believe that the whole concept of Atlantis and its great civilization was nothing but an imagination of Plato. But that doesn’t stop the legend to grow and spread from generation to generation. People still feels fascinated about the myth and researchers are still in search of the truth behind it. The search still goes on to find the lost empire.
