Dinosaurs- Why Did They Become Extinct?

Volcanic Eruption

During the time of Dinosaurs the volcanoes on earth were still very much active. It is believed that the large scale of volcano eruption may have resulted massive geographical change on earth which lead to the death of Dinosaurs.

Climate change

The massive climatic change on earth is also referred as a major reason of dinosaur extinction. It is found that the vegetarian dinosaurs were basically dependent on gymnosperms (a group of plants) which was gradually becoming extinct with the dominance of angiosperms also known as flowering plants. The dinosaurs failed to adjust with this by changing their food habits and thus faced a great shortage of food

Extinction of dinosaurs and the survival of smaller species

You might have a question in mind that since the dinosaurs are so much similar to snakes and lizards, how come these smaller species survived in this disturbance?

Well the main reason behind this is the small species doesn’t need a huge food supply and has more variety of resources from which they can collect it. Also lizards and snakes are cold blooded animals unlike dinosaurs (though it was previously believed that they were cold blooded as well). For this reason the temperature drop during the asteroid event didn’t cause any difficulty to these species.

Conclusion

Despite many researches and proofs about the reason of dinosaur extinction has been presented, the main reason of their death on such a large scale is still not quite clear. We will have to wait for the scientists to have a decisive breakthrough on this issue.
