• The word “Halloween” comes from All Hallows Day, now known as All Saints Day, itself originally a pagan festival.
• Halloween originates from Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival which celebrates the end of the harvest season. They believed that at this time, the boundary between the living and the dead became thin.
• Jack O’Lanterns, or carved pumpkins in the United States were associated with the harvest season before they were connected with Halloween.
